Stem Cell Therapy

The aim of this project is to establish targeted stem cell therapy to minimize progression of renal fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD). In order to accomplish this, we will:

1) Establish genome-edited mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) secreting tissue-repairing factors that hamper progression of renal fibrosis.

2) Establish MSC delivery systems for targeted delivery of the tissue-repairing factors to the fibrotic kidney.

3) Evaluate the efficacy of stem cell therapy in CKD using pre-clinical animal models as well as human renal tissue segments directly obtained from patients.
