COX-2 and Prostaglandins

Our lab has identified specific inflammatory mechanisms revolving around the prostaglandin (PG) system, which seem to be involved in renal injury. The aim of this project is to characterize the role of the PGE2 EP receptors in chronic kidney disease, with a special focus on renal fibrosis. The hypothesis is that targeting PGE2 EP receptors will reduce renal injury and mitigate renal fibrosis. In this project we employ a broad variety of kidney disease models including cell systems, animal models and human samples to study if EP receptors can be used as therapeutic targets for the treatment or prevention of kidney damage and fibrosis.
